There are 8 million U.S. student athletes participate in organized sports, with 111,000 of them living in Connecticut.
If you are the parent of one of these students athletes, preventing injury is a top priority. Turns out it’s a top priority for the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital, too.
“Of those in this age group who are injured, about two-thirds can expect to miss six or more days of organized sports due to their injury,” said Stephanie Bourassa of the Center for Musculoskeletal Health at the Bone & Joint Institute.
Reducing that number is the goal of a newly formed research registry that performs assessments of high school- and college-aged athletes. The hope is to learn more about the effectiveness of preventative exercises and “return to play” guidelines.
This free assessment provides the athlete with a functional movement screening and state-of-the-art motion lab screening.
