New center offers cardiology and primary care, with more services to come.

PLAINFIELD — More than 50 people, including community leaders, physicians and staff, helped Hartford HealthCare, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group and Backus Hospital officially open the new Hartford HealthCare Family Health Center in Plainfield with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 15.

The 40,000-square-foot facility at 584 Norwich Road, adjacent to the Backus Plainfield Emergency Care Center, opened on May 18 with Hartford HealthCare Medical Group primary care and cardiology services.  The center will eventually include other specialties, an infusion center and an ambulatory surgery center.

“This is a great day for Plainfield, Backus and Hartford HealthCare,” said Hartford HealthCare East Region President Bimal Patel. “This center and the services provided here demonstrate our continued commitment to Plainfield and the surrounding communities as we offer even more healthcare services close to home,” s  “Thanks to the help of our community partners, our expert providers and staff, we have become the leader of healthcare delivery in the region.”

The Plainfield Family Health Center is Hartford HealthCare’s 21st Family Center in the state.  In Eastern Connecticut, there are also centers in Willimantic, Norwichtown, Storrs, North Stonington, Ledyard, Montville and Colchester.

“Our goal is to meet all of the primary healthcare needs of this community right in its backyard. This family health center and the [adjacent] Emergency Care Center are becoming the primary destination for healthcare delivery in all Northeastern Connecticut,” said Vincent DiBattista, Senior Vice President, Physician Services and President, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group.

Plainfield First Selectman Paul Sweet said the opening of the center is great news for his community.

“I’ve cut a lot of ribbons in my 22 years in office and I’m proud of all of them, but there is something very special about this center.” said Sweet. “I’m so impressed when I walk through this building. It’s stunning.”
