Join Mark Brown in his efforts to raise funds and increase awareness around the importance of heart health. Follow Mark on May 29, 2019 journey, riding up the scenic and rustic Appalachian Trail as he supports the the development of a new Heart and Vascular Center, bringing improved cardiac care to Backus Hospital and our entire region.

Through its affiliation with Hartford HealthCare, Backus Hospital is creating a new Heart and Vascular Center —  a modern, comprehensive outpatient site which will offer a full spectrum of cardiovascular care and testing.  Providing both care and testing at one site will result in a more convenient and easier to navigate delivery model of care to patients.

In addition, by relocating the current 5,700 square foot center at Otrobando Avenue in Norwich to a new 8,500 square foot space located at the Backus Outpatient Care Center in Norwich, patients will benefit from having Hartford Healthcare Heart and Vascular Institute-based diagnostics such as a Vascular Lab, treatment tools and healthcare providers in a connected office space. This physical relocation will promote seamless care between specialists and primary care physicians, resulting in easier access for patients and improved outcomes.

The new Heart and Vascular Center will offer:

  • Echocardiography and stress testing
  • Nuclear cardiology
  • More Cardiology Specialists
  • Electrophysiology (EP)
  • Advanced Heart Failure Specialists
  • Pediatric and Adult Congenital Specialists from Connecticut Children’s.
  • Vascular surgery

The cost of the new Heart and Vascular Center and the cardiac care improvements is estimated to be $2.7 million.  In addition to the investment being made by Hartford Healthcare, funding for this important project will also come from the Backus 125thAnniversary Healthy Community Campaigngrant funding and private contributions – such as Mark Brown’s Coast to Coast 4 Cardiac Care ride.
