Arthritis & Allergy Associates of Torrington is now part of the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute specializing in Allergy and Rheumatology. The office is located in the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Medical Office Building at 538 Litchfield Street, Suite 101, Torrington.
Rheumatologists from the practice are now part of the Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, including John Magaldi, MD, FACR, FACP, and Jeffrey Miller, MD, FAAAAI, who will continue to see patients in Torrington. They have also been joined by two new rheumatologists, Lia Jamian, MD and Kateryna Bertuch, MD, who are seeing patients in Torrington and in Hartford at the HHC Bone & Joint Institute Center for Rheumatology & Bone Health, Ambulatory Building, at 31 Seymour Street, Suite 206 in Harford.

The practice offers a wide range of services including joint injections, infusion/biologic therapies, ultrasound injections and diagnostics, as well as allergy/immunology evaluation and treatment.
The practice is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accepts most major insurances.
A rheumatologist is an internist with further training in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases.
Rheumatic diseases can affect the joints, muscles, and bones causing pain, swelling, stiffness, and deformity. They can also affect the eyes, skin, nervous system, and internal organs. Rheumatologists treat joint disease similar to orthopedists but do not perform surgeries. Common diseases treated by rheumatologists include osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, , tendinitis, and lupus.
An Allergist is an internist with further training in the treatment of inhalant and food allergies, asthma and immune disorders. Common allergic diseases include hives, eczema, angioedema, and seasonal rhinitis.
- Dr. Lia Jamian attended Medical School at Ross UniversitySchool of Medicine in Dominica. She completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Foundation inWeston, FL, and completed a Fellowship in Rheumatology at Vanderbilt UniversityMedical Center in Nashville, TN.
- Dr. Kateryna Bertuch attended Medical School in Vinnica Medical Pirogova University, Vinnica Ukraine and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. She also completed a Fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington, VT.
- Dr. Jeffrey Miller is an allergy and rheumatology specialist who attended Medical School at East Carolina School of Medicine, where he also completed his Residency and Internship. He completed a Fellowship in Rheumatology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Medical College of Virginia. He was Partner and President of Arthritis and Allergy Associates prior to joining Hartford HealthCare’s Medical Group.
- Dr. John Magaldi attended Medical School at St. George’s University in the West Indies, Grenada, and completed his residency and Fellowship at Yale University, New Haven, CT. He is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Physicians. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCONN Medical Center, Farmington, CT. Dr. Magaldi has also been recently appointed Chief of Rheumatology Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute. In this role, he is developing and leading a comprehensive “physician-led” state-wide rheumatology group integrated through the Bone and Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital. Dr. Magaldi will share office hours in Torrington and in Hartford at the Ambulatory Building at 31 Seymour Street in Hartford.
