Backus Hospital’s 14th annual Safety Camp is planned for Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the hospital parking lot at 326 Washington St., Norwich, outside the entrance to the Medical Office Building.

Organized by the Backus Trauma and EMS departments and American Ambulance, Safety Camp gives children and families a chance to learn about safety in a fun environment. Children can tour emergency vehicles and learn how they work. Safety lessons will include water, electricity, fire, the use of 911 and more.

Face painting and story time will also be available and there will be appearances by Trauma Roo, Crash Test Dummies, fire trucks and ambulances, Safe Kids car seat clinic, a balloon artist and many others. Free bicycle helmets will be given out while supplies last.

Attendees are invited to bring non-perishable food items for a collection bin set up at the event in support of the Gemma E. Moran/United Way Labor Food Center. For more information on this free event, call Renee Malaro at 860.889.8331, ext. 3220.
