Mary Storm has been named Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Hartford HealthCare. This is the role David Haig held previously and the one that Anthony Mio has been serving in an interim capacity with discretionary effort so valued in our System.
Mary will lead all areas related to compliance, internal audit, privacy and compliance, and will be responsible for planning and designing, implementing and maintaining system-wide corporate compliance programs, policies and procedures. This executive position serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical principles, and compliance with federal and state law in all areas of compliance programs and staff.
Mary has extensive experience in health care compliance, leading the compliance function at Maine Coast Memorial, Carondelet Health, St. Mary’s and McLaren Health. In Mary’s most recent role, she served as the Vice President and General Counsel for Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.
Mary’s undergraduate degree is in Health Information Management and she spent the first part of her career working in a variety of healthcare positions — medical records, coding, utilization review, quality, physician billing, accreditation readiness, HIPAA, the medical staff office, risk management and corporate compliance. Later, Mary earned here Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Mary’s passion has been helping others understand and comply with the rules that govern how we provide, document and bill for healthcare services.
Mary enjoys life with her husband and three adult children. As a child, Mary spent many summers on the East Coast, helping her parents and five older siblings with the family business — building golf courses. She credits her four brothers for her sense of humor and is enthused about this opportunity and fully endorses the H3W leadership behaviors in advancing our Corporate Compliance program.
Mary looks forward to partnering with each of you in our teamwork to be most trusted for personalized coordinated care — and be #1 in the Northeast for customer experience by 2023.
