The Ayer Neuroscience Institute’s Primary Stroke Center and Program at The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) and MidState recently received accreditation from the Joint Commission following a two-day review.

In fact, HOCC received a flawless report, which is rare. Cathy Ligi, RN, BSN, CIC, HOCC regional regulatory readiness coordinator in Quality and Safety, said it is very uncommon to experience a survey without any negative findings, and it speaks to the engagement of the staff and their focus on excellence every day.

Ligi also said that both Joint Commission surveyors were extremely complimentary of everyone’s commitment toward improving the stroke patient’s experience. The surveyors gave special recognition to leadership, stroke team members, and the clinical oversight of stroke team coordinator Kristen Hickey and HOCC chief of neurology Dr. Timothy Parsons.

“Our veteran surveyor shared that it was one of the best stroke programs she has ever seen,” said Ligi. “Many thanks to all for a highly successful survey.”
