Hartford HealthCare announces the appointment of Laura Currie, RN, MS, as Vice President of Patient Care Services for the East Region. She began April 30.

Laura is an executive nurse leader with more than 25 years of experience supporting and guiding teams at Baystate Health System in Massachusetts. She is outcomes-driven and understands the importance of linking mission with performance. An experienced mentor, she empowers people to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Most recently, Laura was director of cardiovascular invasive and nursing services, critical care and neurosciences nursing for Baystate, overseeing more than 700 full-time staff members and a budget of $300 million. She rose to this position in her more than 25 years with the system, where she started as a staff nurse in the Cardiac Surgery ICU. Coming to Hartford HealthCare is serendipitous for her since her first healthcare job was as a staff nurse in the Cardiothoracic Unit at Hartford Hospital.

She is a graduate of Northeastern University and holds a master’s degree as a perioperative clinical nurse specialist from the University of Connecticut.

Laura earned the Mentor Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses in 2008. She is on the adjunct faculty at Elms College, teaching courses within its RN-BSN program, and served as site co-investigator for the five-year study “Implementation of Practice Standards for ECG Monitoring (Practical Use of the Latest Standards for Electrocardiography, or PULSE)” funded by the National Institutes of Health.

“We are pleased that Laura will be joining the team at Backus and Windham hospitals. Her experience, leadership style and vision will be key as we continue to grow services here and improve the patient experience,” said Donna Handley, president of Backus and Windham hospitals.
