Hartford HealthCare and its 18,000 employees have been recognized by Connecticut Magazine in its 2016 “Great Places To Work” survey, released this week in its November issue.

“We know that providing high-quality healthcare requires the highest-quality employees, physicians and volunteers. Being named one of Connecticut’s great workplaces is a testament to the 18,000 people who have a passion for safety and caring. This is proud recognition of a team who commit themselves every day to those we serve — in our hospitals, health centers and many programs and services,” said Tracy Church, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Hartford HealthCare.

The magazine says it created the list independently, with no fees required for consideration, using recommendations from employment professionals and reader submissions to its offices, website and social media outlets. “In researching this year’s list,” the magazine says, “we’ve learned what makes a ‘great’ workplace is quite subjective — where one person will rave about the size of their paycheck, another loves having on-site day care, while another appreciates being able to work from home.”

From the magazine:

Hartford HealthCare

Connecticut locations: Multiple locations

Number of Connecticut employees: About 18,000

Business type: Health care network

Why it’s a great place to work: Hartford HealthCare is a mammoth health care system that boasts five acute-care hospitals, the state’s oldest air-ambulance service, behavioral health and rehabilitation services, a large physician group and clinical integration organization, skilled-nursing and home health services, and a comprehensive range of services for seniors, including senior-living facilities. According to Rebecca Stewart, director of its news service, the best part of working for the network is the nature of the work itself. “Science proves that the secret to happiness is helping others. And helping others is what health care is all about,” she says. “Staff members throughout Hartford HealthCare are making a difference — they are leading the way and transforming how care is delivered in our state and beyond.”
