Preventing orthopedic injury is just one of the ways the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital aims to serve the community.

“Part of what we’re trying to do here is figure out how do we help people to move toward a higher level of wellness,” said Dr. Courtland Lewis, physician-in-chief of the Bone & Joint Institute.

Prevention is emphasized in the most recent Connect To Healthier podcast shorts featuring hosts Rob Dibble and Ben Darnell, and their interviews with Dr. Lewis and fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Veltri. These podcasts were recorded during a live appearance of The Rob Dibble Show at the Bone & Joint Institute in April 2017.

Dr. Veltri has worked on injury prevention with athletes ranging from the New York Giants to local high school teams. Rob, Ben and Dr. V. talk marathon running, the mechanics of golf, when to see an orthopedist, and, of our course, baseball – specifically, how research by Major League Baseball has trickled down to benefit Little Leaguers in the form of pitch limits.

Rob and Ben pepper Dr. Lewis with questions on dynamic stretching, what you may need to do differently as you get older to prepare yourself for exercise, and how obesity affects your orthopedic health.

The Rob Dibble Show airs weekday afternoon from 3-7  p.m. on 97.9 ESPN in Hartford.
