Hartford HealthCare Chief Executive Officer Elliot Joseph told members of the Central Region Leadership Forum March 7 that HHC would stand firm on its stance of rejecting Gov. Dannel Malloy’s proposed budget.

The budget would require HHC to pay an additional $52 million in property taxes along with the organization’s current taxes and community benefits expenses. In addition, the governor’s proposed budget would redirect certain Medicaid payments to cities and towns, making fewer dollars available to provide care to low-income patients.

Joseph asked staff members to contact their legislators to voice their opinions against the budget and to encourage friends and family members to do so. Click here to see a pre-written message, which you can personalize, on the Voter Voice site.

Hartford HealthCare Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Flaks also spoke at the monthly forum, voicing HHC’s commitment to growth and safety. He said HHC will continue to expand and used as an example the construction of an HHC Family Healthcare Center on Queen Street in Southington.

Gerry Lupacchino, vice president of Leadership and Organizational Development; Kate Sims, director of the Office of Customer Experience; and Kim McClure, director of Learning and Development, spoke about the Every Moment Matters initiative to improve patient, family and employee satisfaction. Lupacchino also talked about the new Momentum initiative, which enables employees to recognize coworkers across the system for outstanding efforts.
