The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) has been recognized for its consistently high quality of care in a wide range of conditions, including a hospital-wide award for clinical excellence.
Healthgrades, an online resource for information about physicians and hospitals, named HOCC a 2018 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence, putting the hospital in the top 5 percent nationally for overall clinical excellence. This is the third consecutive year HOCC won the award.
HOCC received nine other awards, including the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, as well as Five-Star recognition for care in heart attack, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, small intestine surgery, treatment of sepsis and treatment of respiratory failure. HOCC was also named among the top 10 percent in the nation for overall pulmonary services.

The hospital-wide clinical excellence award recognizes all hospitals that were among the top five percent in the nation with the lowest risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates across at least 21 of 32 common conditions and procedures.
Healthgrades said what differentiates a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence from the rest is while many hospitals have specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes for some conditions and procedures, these hospitals exhibit comprehensive and consistent quality across a range of conditions and procedures.
