The radiation oncology Lean Daily Management Teams within the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute have earned Bronze Certification through the effective integration of Lean practices, principles and tools. The designation follows training and implementation of daily management techniques over the past year.

Lean principles have been incorporated as elements of the system’s adoption of daily management to strengthen the existing H3W operating model by moving from monthly H3W Work Group Meetings to daily huddles and instilling problem-solving throughout Hartford HealthCare. These enhancements are paired with the H3W Leadership Behaviors and Lean Immersion trainings.

To date more than 230 units across Hartford HealthCare have successfully implemented daily huddles, engaged in A3 problem-solving and conducted rapid improvement Kaizen events. After implementation of huddles, the Bronze Certification process provides a roadmap for teams to demonstrate successful implementation of critical practices that position them for stability, ongoing improvement and enhanced performance in the future. Over the next year, 100 units would have achieved Bronze Certification with the incorporation of the 16 oncology areas being Bronze- Certified.

The six units within the HHC Cancer Institute which have successfully earned Bronze certification are:

  • Hartford Hospital Radiation Oncology
  • Hospital of Central Connecticut Radiation Oncology
  • MidState Medical Center Radiation Oncology
  • Backus Hospital Radiation Oncology
  • Hartford Hospital Avon Radiation Oncology
  • Urology Group (Tallwood) Radiation Oncology
