Dianne Poland will tell you she’s blessed.

Blessed with a family that loves and supports her, and blessed to have beaten the breast cancer that invaded her body two years ago.

By participating in a cancer clinical trial with Hartford HealthCare and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she is seizing an opportunity to further cancer research and to help cancer patients who may benefit from new treatments and medication.

“When you look at what has been done in cancer research, and you see how much as been done, that wouldn’t have happened without [cancer research] trials,” Poland said.

Dr. Peter Yu, Physician-in-Chief for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, agrees.

“We need to have a robust clinical trials system that protects the patient but accelerates the development of these new drugs,” Dr. Yu stated.
