The WFSB Channel 3 Liberty Bank surprise squad recently visited The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) Outpatient Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Center in New Britain to drop off a $500 gift card after learning about the need to help create a new wellness room for employees.
“I am so grateful to WFSB and all our supporters for making this a reality. Our colleagues really deserve this space,” said Kim Hughey, LCSW, regional clinical manager of HOCC Outpatient Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.
Kim sent out communications asking colleagues and supporters to help furnish the new permanent room and future wellness areas at other BHN locations. With contributions coming in like plants, lamps, comfy chairs and a coffee machine, the space is shaping up to be a quiet, peaceful setting for staff to relax and refresh when needed.
Psychiatric Clinician Coralys Mercado, who conducts group and individual therapy sessions for an intensive outpatient program, had the idea to create a permanent space for her coworkers after the attending a recent wellness day put on for the staff. Her motivation was that colleagues have been going through a lot and experienced some understandable burnout with the recent pandemic surge as client volumes and amounts of depression increased.
