In a move designed to bring more primary care services to the people West Hartford, Hartford HealthCare and municipal leaders gathered Tuesday to ceremoniously sign a first-floor pole in a state-of-the-art medical office building.
The facility, being built at the corner of South Main and Park Road, will eventually house five primary care providers, diagnostic imaging testing space and office space for a rotating group of specialists in pulmonology, podiatry, medical weight loss and surgery, according to Dr. Cynthia Heller, physician-in-chief and vice president of the Hartford HealthCare Medical Group.
“There is not enough access to primary care — our two other (primary care) offices in West Hartford are full,” Dr. Heller said of the need.
The Park and Main Medical Center will be the sixth Hartford HealthCare facility in West Hartford and one of 26 construction projects the system is working on across the state, said President and CEO Jeffrey Flaks.
“We are transforming healthcare by building facilities like this, with primary care at the center, and testing and diagnostic services close to home,” he noted. “We want to deliver healthcare equitably.”
Saying such expansion – which builds on the 20 locations the system opened in the last year — is evidence Hartford HealthCare is “disrupting ourselves” to improve access to care in all communities.
“Health is everything,” West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor said, quoting an elderly relative. “Hartford HealthCare is a shining light…it’s important to have accessible quality care.”
