A weight loss of 5 percent to 10 percent can reduce cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, the risk of pre-diabetes or diabetes, sleep apnea and inflammation (Obesity Action 2018). In addition, many people say their quality of life improves, they have more energy and they just feel better.
Weight Watchers has launched a new program in 2018 called Freestyle. More than 200 foods are free of points and you are allowed to eat an unlimited amount of them. This means you have fewer foods to track or count and more to enjoy guilt free! Additionally, you can roll over four points daily. Weight Watchers is a well-balanced, easy and convenient way to lose that 5 percent to 10 percent and it’s free for all HHC employees and spouses of those who carry HHC health insurance.
Currently, Windham Hospital holds open meetings from 2:30-4 p.m. on Thursdays in the diabetes classroom. An open meeting allows participants to come, get weighed and have counseling if they desire. There is no class to attend. The SSO on Stott Avenue has regular meetings on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m.
We are currently attempting to restart a program at Backus, most likely using the drop-in program. If you have an interest, please contact Sarah Hospod at sarah.hospod@hhchealth.org. We need at least 15 interested employees to explore this possibility.
Finally, if you are unable to make any type of meeting, you can join the online program by going to the intranet and typing “Weight Watchers” in the search bar.
