Mary Kornacki says giving back is what keeps her going. And, she does keep going and going and going.
Kornacki, who recently celebrated her 95th birthday, is Backus’ oldest volunteer. The Norwich native and Preston resident began volunteering at Backus Hospital in 1998, serving in various roles with the marketing department and the escort office. During the summer months, she greets patients twice a week in the Medical Office Building. In the fall, she will return to her job in the escort office.
“I can’t just sit around,” she says. “Helping people helps me more [than it does them.]”
