Windham Hospital has received a Silver Plus Achievement Award from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for its work to improve stroke care in the facility.

Called Get With the Guidelines — Stroke, this in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines. Numerous published studies demonstrate the program’s success in achieving measurable patient outcome improvements.

The program provides patient management and clinical tools to hospitals to help improve stroke care. The awards recognize hospitals that demonstrate at least 85 percent compliance in each of the seven Get With The Guidelines — Stroke Achievement Measures. Silver Plus, which Windham received, denotes 12 consecutive months of consistent compliance.

The program also provides workshops, webinars, research materials and relevant publications to participating hospitals to ensure caregivers are receiving the most up-to-date information regarding the treatment of stroke patients.

“This recognition is evidence of our care team’s hard work and commitment to saving lives,” said Melissa Lawson, RN BSN, stroke program supervisor for Hartford Healthcare’s East Region, which includes Windham Hospital. “Being honored for giving excellent patient care is the best recognition a hospital can get.”
