Join us for an exciting and fun-filled day with health information, speakers, screenings, demonstrations, and activities for everyone from children to seniors.

Admission is free, and you can explore many different areas including:

Healthy Minds: Experts will offer insights into mental and behavioral health topics including substance abuse, memory loss and the aging brain, and eradicating associated stereotypes and stigmas. Screenings, interactive demonstrations, pet therapy, resources and other activities designed to “boost” the brain will be showcased.

Aging Well: With the focus on healthy aging, resources will include information about geriatric medicine, memory loss, assisted services, senior living communities and Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging. GoodLife Fitness exercise specialists will provide insights on the benefit of exercise for older adults.

Women’s Health: Issues specific to women will be featured including essential screenings, cancer prevention, exercise and parenting.

Mindful Eating: Eating well is the foundation of good health for people of every age. Among those demonstrating easy ways to assimilate a better diet are LEAF (Lewis Educational Agricultural Farm) and numerous vendors offering education, cooking tips, products and food samples.

Sports Medicine: Regular activity – whether on a recreational or competitive level – can be key to improved wellness. Professionals will share ideas on incorporating movement into the daily lifestyle whether it is something as simple as walking or enjoying outdoor family fun, or more challenging activities such as martial arts. Fitness specialists will provide guidance on proper techniques to prevent injuries and increase results. In addition, visitors can learn how physical rehabilitation can get a person back on his or her feet following injury or a surgery.

Kids’ Area: Presented by the Southington Community YMCA, exciting activities will appeal to youngsters including an obstacle course, friendly competitions, try-your-skill games, inflatables and gymnastics, all centered on a fun Star Wars theme. In addition, adults will be able to learn about Amber Alert, child car seat safety, early childhood education, pediatric health, and supportive programs including Southington STEPS and Southington Youth Services. The Lions Club will provide free vision screening for youngsters as young as six months old. Children will get to meet character mascots, including a Hartford Yard Goat, and explore a fire truck and police car.

John Myers, executive director of the YMCA, said the Y is also planning to host numerous interactive booths for teens, adults and seniors. Entertainment will include radio personalities, Renee DiNino and Cory Myers, of Country 92.5 I-Heart Radio.

This year’s premiere sponsor is the Bradley H. Barnes & Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation and the event is presented by Hartford HealthCare and the Southington Community YMCA.
