Although it’s a mistake to underestimate the unpredictability or transmissibility of COVID-19, it might be time to acknowledge the latest wave called Omicron has peaked in Connecticut.

With case numbers, ICU (intensive care unit) admissions and deaths in decline, has the state withstood the worst of the latest variant?

“Looking at all those numbers,” says Dr. Ulysses Wu, Hartford HealthCare’s System Director of Infection Disease and Chief Epidemiologist, “if they hold true and they all stay down, we are now on the downside of the rollercoaster.”

In the graphic below, courtesy of the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, you’ll see a peak at 10,179 cases per day recorded in Connecticut as a seven-day moving average for the period ending Jan. 7. From there, the dip continues to 6,156.75 cases per day as of Jan. 17. (The data was updated Jan. 18.)
