For Sydney Sachell, playing sports is a way of life.

She made her mark as a member of the NCCA Division 1 women’s lacrosse team at Howard University. After four years with the Bisons, she took a job at a small private school in Massachusetts, working with students who had learning disabilities and directing the school’s athletic programming.

Life was good for Sachell until a devastating automobile accident changed everything.

“I hit a patch of ice and wasn’t able to control the car enough to get out of the way and I hit a tree,” she says.

As a result of that accident, Sydney lost all motion in her left foot, which was ultimately amputated, and her continued pursuit of athletics was in jeopardy.

But sports are back in the picture for Sydney, thanks, in part, to Ken Bruno and the team at the Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network.

And she has her sights set on international competition.
