Inpatient, outpatient programs now part of the HHC footprint in Connecticut

Now that Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) is part of Hartford HealthCare, here is a look at what its Behavioral Health Services provides:

• Treatment focuses on the every patient’s unique strengths and abilities to help in their meaningful and lasting recovery. Therapists partner with patients to explore concerns, help identify and set specific goals, and work to create a treatment program tailored to individual needs and circumstances.

• CHH offers comprehensive behavioral health treatment programs and care for adults, adolescents, children and families in both hospital inpatient and community outpatient settings throughout the northwest corner.

• Specialized services including outpatient psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

• Treatment approaches, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, and specialty individual and group therapies are conducted by a wide range of licensed professional social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, substance abuse professionals, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and adult and child psychiatrists.

• The CHH Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit offers crisis intervention, evaluation and assessment, and psychiatric disposition and referrals to patients with mental health needs. Services include brief, comprehensive psychiatric stabilization, medical alcohol detoxification, and dual diagnosis treatment in a recovery-oriented setting designed to encourage positive behavioral growth and improved functioning in a safe, highly-structured, supportive environment.

• Crisis Intervention Services from the main hospital’s Emergency Department where a team of crisis workers delivers immediate care to adults, adolescents and children experiencing an acute psychiatric emergency 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A psychiatrist is on call at all times for staff consult.

• The hospital’s campus-based Partial Hospital Program provides comprehensive outpatient therapeutic health services to adults and their families based on individual need and stage of recovery. The program provides an intensive therapeutic environment five days a week for people in the process of recovery from recent and severe mental health or co-occurring disorders.

• For those experiencing substance abuse, the Adult Dual-Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Program provides a confidential, highly structured, intensive intermediate level of care between inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment programs for adults.

• Also offered is an adolescent Partial Hospital/Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program that provides care for mental health and co-occurring disorders using a variety of treatment techniques including motivational enhancement, stages of change, drug screening, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

• Mental Health Services to the Homeless (MHSH) provides homeless individuals, including families, with outreach, engagement, screening, mental health and substance abuse assessments and intakes provided by the program outreach clinicians.

• The Center for Youth and Families at 50 Litchfield Street in Torrington is a child advocacy center and professional mental health service provider offering comprehensive outpatient treatment services to assist children, adolescents and their families with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and family difficulties. Services include providing the assessment and assistance of crisis situations, helping children and families who are victims of abuse, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Connections Program for children on the Autistic Spectrum. The Center features a Foster Care Clinic providing medical and behavioral health screenings and recommendations for all children placed into foster care in northwestern Connecticut, and Bridges Extended Day Treatment which is a week-long intensive group therapy program for children ages 6 to 12 experiencing behavioral, and or emotional challenges at home, school, and in the community. Also based at the Center is the Child Abuse Investigation Team of Northwest Connecticut that is composed of a multidisciplinary investigation team approach that assists law enforcement in the investigations of child abuse cases.
