Over the past year, we have been working with a nationally recognized firm, Nexera, on a comprehensive assessment of Hartford HealthCare’s Supply Chain operation and structure.

Together with information and insights from our staff, Nexera has explored ways we can streamline workflow, further improve our supply cost trends and use standard processes to enhance our work. Creating a less fragmented, more efficient supply chain process will benefit our patients, providers and our organization.

Now that the assessment is complete, we are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Nexera. This will result in a new structure for our Supply Chain functions, which include Purchasing, Distribution, Accounts Payable, Content Management and Contracting.

Nexera will assume responsibility and oversight of all Supply Chain operations. Current Supply Chain leaders will become employees of Nexera; Supply Chain staff will remain Hartford HealthCare employees. Milrose Mercado, a Nexera expert who has worked closely on the project, has been named Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, reporting to Charles Johnson, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Hartford HealthCare. Sharon Fried will be Vice President for Supply Chain Operations.

Our Human Resources team and Nexera staff have been working to ensure a smooth transition, and we will continue to meet and talk with the staff and leaders as we move into this new model. Members of Hartford HealthCare’s Clinical Care Design leadership team have also been engaged to begin a value analysis.

Nexera is a subsidiary of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), with whom we have had a long and successful relationship. We pleased to have this opportunity to partner with their experts at Nexera. This group is uniquely equipped to provide guidance and knowledge to HHC as we focus on service performance, reduction of unnecessary variation and cost, and drive clinical supply chain integration.
