The Hospital of Central Connecticut has announced the opening of its expanded Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) program space to meet the increased need for high-risk prenatal testing. The new and expanded 2,390-square-foot area includes additional exam and procedure rooms on the New Britain campus.
The new space boasts three ultrasound examination rooms as well as three non-stress test fetal monitoring procedure areas. Patient consultations are held in a state-of-the-art area with video technology. Patients are greeted in a large reception area with additional seating.
“Providing exceptional maternal fetal care is vital to the health of our community,” said Gary Havican, president of The Hospital of Central Connecticut. “With the newest technology, we’ve transformed the space to accommodate the evolving needs of our patients while providing an excellent experience from the moment they walk through the door.”
Led by Medical Director Deborah Feldman, MD, a diverse team of providers are on staff to provide services to women with both low- and high-risk pregnancies. Referrals can be made to Maternal Fetal Medicine for a pre-conception or prenatal consultation with an MFM physician or genetic counselor. MFM physicians, genetic counselors and a team of sonographers use state-of-the-art ultrasound techniques, genetic testing and procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, and fetal echocardiography to diagnose and monitor complications in pregnancy. Twice-weekly fetal non-stress testing and biophysical profiling supports women through their third trimester.
