Hartford HealthCare’s proposed 47,000-square-foot, three-story health center in Mystic received unanimous approval from the Stonington Planning and Zoning on Jan. 14. Approval clears the way for groundbreaking at the site off of Coogan Boulevard.

The health center will include primary care, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, Headache Center, Movement Disorders Center, pain management services, neurosurgery and other neuroscience and specialty services, community education and space for future offerings. It’s scheduled to open in early 2020.

The proposed health center is located next to Mystic Aquarium at the Perkins Farm Campus, which is a large mixed-use development that also includes housing for active adults as well as young professionals like those recently hired by Electric Boat. In keeping with the community’s roots and input from our soon-to-be neighbors, the facility is designed to subtly suggest a large ship, with a silo-like structure on the side that resembles a ship’s smoke stack, or funnel.
