Identifying the cause of tremors and managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease was the focus of the latest in a series of community talks hosted by the Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute on Nov. 14 in Hartford. More than 75 people attended the event at Phillips Church led by Dr. J. Antonelle de Marcaida, and Dr. Durate Machado, from the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center.
The talk was the fourth in series of 12 free educational seminars on several neurological conditions including stroke, movement disorders, hearing and balance, and headaches.
“This is a part of our road show initiative in which we’re taking the experts from Hartford HealthCare from within our institutes to educate and inform people on the various health challenges that they face,” says Greg Jones, vice president for community health and engagement for Hartford HealthCare. “This is information that might seem atypical to this audience so we’ve got to take our message to them.”
The series is made possible thanks to a $21-thousand gift from the Hartford.
“We couldn’t do this without sponsorship from companies like the Hartford who understand what it means to be a good corporate citizen. With their support we’re able to provide multiple outreach events across the city, allowing us to take our expertise outside of the walls of the hospital and into the community,” Jones says.
