WATERFORD–Hartford HealthCare and the Constitution Surgery Alliance celebrated the opening of Constitution Surgery Center East Thursday with a ribbon-cutting at the brand new, state-of-the-art facility that will offer outpatient surgery options for patients right in their community.

The Center, which will officially open for procedures next week, will be utilized by existing Constitution orthopedic and opthamology surgeons, and by urologists relocating to the nearby Hartford HealthCare office. Other specialists will eventually be able to secure time in the Center’s cutting-edge operating rooms at the 22,000-square foot 140 Cross Road location.

“We’re delighted with the success of this project. The vision at Hartford HealthCare is to provide affordable healthcare services, to provide access to healthcare services and to drive safety in healthcare. This project meets all of that,” said Jeffrey Flaks, president and chief operating officer at Hartford HealthCare.

“We believe in the value of partnership and are very committed to Waterford and bringing in highly capable healthcare services for the people of this area.”

Kris Mineau, president and chief executive officer of Constitution Surgery Alliance, said partnering with Hartford HealthCare on the Waterford ambulatory surgery center was “a really important decision for us.”

“They bring leadership, support and a real commitment,” he noted before the crowd of approximately 150.

The new Constitution Surgery Center East replaces the site that Constitution has operated at 174 Cross Road. According to the facility’s medical director and orthopedic surgeon Tarik Kardestuncer, MD, the surgeons outgrew that location and look forward to having expanded space.

Anthony Barri, MD, an opthamologic surgeon, founder of the Waterford surgery center and now manager of the new facility, agreed.

“This is a win-win-win situation,” he said simply.
