Health News Hub Staff Report

The first of as many as 15 urgent-care centers to be operated jointly by Hartford HealthCare and GoHealth Urgent Care is scheduled to open May 1 in the former Rite Aid on West Main Street in Avon.

It’s the beginning of an 18-month first phase of expansion in Central and Eastern Connecticut using GoHealth Urgent Care’s model that features care available seven days a week with extended evening hours, welcomes walk-in patients and reduces wait time with a simple online check-in.

GoHealth Urgent Care, which now operates urgent-care centers in New York, the Portland (Ore.) metropolitan area and the San Francisco Bay Area, says the urgent-care centers co-branded with Hartford HealthCare will include electrostatic “smart glass” procedure rooms, transparent charting on a wide screen in each exam room, mobile X-ray equipment and a unified electronic medical record that can be accessed by caregivers across the Hartford HealthCare network.

“This partnership will revolutionize the way urgent care is provided in Connecticut,” says Jeffrey Flaks, President and Chief Operating Officer of Hartford HealthCare.

GoHealth Care, with corporate headquarters in Atlanta, is one of the 10 largest urgent-care companies in the United States. It says it has high expectations for its first urgent-care centers in New England.

“Hartford HealthCare is a progressive organization,” says Todd Latz, CEO of GoHealth Urgent Care, “and their market is primed for our innovative, consumer-focused urgent care model.”

The new Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care center at 385 West Main St. in Avon will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting May 1, call 860.777.1280 or check in online by clicking here.
