Adriana Castro is back to doing what she loves: running.

It was not all that long ago that this kind of intense training would have been unthinkable for Adriana. That’s because debilitating migraines made her everyday life a struggle.

“I could barely talk, go out. I stay only in my room no going out basically,” she said.

Adriana travels every three months from her home in Guatemala to the Hartford HealthCare Headache Center in West Hartford. It’s here, she says, that neurologist Dr. Brian Grosberg has given her renewed hope of a pain-free life.

“I’ve been having really terrible migraines since I was 13 years old and I had almost no resolution in my country,” Adriana said. “I visited five doctors in my country and I received several treatments, but no solutions.”

In desperation, she Googled her symptoms. That’s how she found Dr. Grosberg.

“He was very open to me I wrote to him,” she said “So I came here (to Connecticut).”

Dr. Grosberg and the team at the Hartford HealthCare Headache Center assess each patient thoroughly, with treatment tailored to the individual patients’ needs.

For Adriana, infusion therapy has provided relief from her migraine symptoms.

“When I first saw Adriana, she was having headaches nearly every day,” said Dr. Grosberg. “There are a limited number of places across the country, or, for that matter, across the globe, that provide infusion therapy.”

“Almost instantly,” said Adriana, “years of pain seemed to vanish. (It was) finally a treatment that worked!”

With her symptoms under control, she has her life back in earnest.

“In the last year I could barely exercise,” she said, “and now I’m training for a triathlon.”
