Whatever your age, an anti-inflammatory diet is good for your health. But it’s only good for you if you know what it is and know how to use it.

Chris Barrett, a Clinical Dietician at the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute, will host a presentation on the anti-inflammatory diet at the Walk to Wellness Aug. 6 at 8:30 am at the Westfarms Rest and Relaxation Lounge (Lower Level of Westfarms mall near Nordstrom).

Our immune system protects our body with a process known as inflammation. It protects us and helps us heal, but when it gets out of control  it can be linked to virtually every major disease  — arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. For young people, an anti-inflammatory diet is particularly effective against juvenile diabetes and chronic asthma. In studies, this diet has reduced the severity of asthma and allergies and even prevented chronic asthma.

“Inflammation is at the center of many chronic illnesses including heart disease, stroke and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis,” says Barrett.

At the presentation, you will learn about:

  • Health benefits of an anti-inflammatory diet.
  • How to make dietary changes simple and sustainable.
  • Easy anti-inflammatory recipes.
