Awareness and education are keys to dispersing the shadow shame casts over domestic violence and when the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) honors people for their contribution to that effort this year, the Behavioral Health Network  president will be among them.

Patricia Rehmer, who also serves as senior vice president of behavioral health for Hartford HealthCare, is among those being honored on Friday, Nov. 15 at CCADV’s First 100 Breakfast and Awards ceremony. Kim Harrison, Hartford HealthCare vice president for government affairs, will also be recognized at the event.

Rehmer is being recognized for:

  • Increasing domestic violence awareness trainings at HHC and its Institute of Living.
  • Boosting the amount of outreach being done in the community to share the signs of domestic violence and teach people the resources they have for help.
  • Working with CCADV’s team on technical changes in the EPIC personal health record system.

“Pat has been instrumental in connecting me to each of the monthly leadership meetings at the IOL, Natchaug and Rushford,” said Ashley Starr Frechette, director of health professional outreach with CCADV. “Through these, we have been able to make great connections across many areas of practice.”

Rehmer also encouraged HHC staff to participate in CCADV intimate partner violence (IPV) screening and intervention trainings for which they earn continuing education credits.

“Through this collaboration, the IOL staff is kept up to date on CCADV resources and connections have been made to ensure that IPV education is being implemented for their staff and residents,” Frechette noted.

CCADV CEO Karen Jarmoc said it’s the ninth year for the First 100 awards which recognize community leaders “who make a positive difference in our work to assist survivors of domestic violence in Connecticut.” Funds raised through the breakfast ceremony support comprehensive responses and public awareness efforts.
