The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute announced the appointment of the following four new providers:

Dr. Sara Dost
Dr. Sara Dost

Dr. Sara Dost, a medical oncologist and hematologist whose clinical interests are breast oncology and supportive care of cancer patients, begins in August.

A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Dr. Dost earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She completed an internal medicine residency through the University of Connecticut, a fellowship in palliative and hospice medicine at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of South Florida H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Sope Olugbile, MD

Dr. Sope Olugbile, a medical oncologist with a clinical focus on solid tumors, immuno-oncology and developmental drug research, begins in September, working on translational medicine projects with The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicines. He earned a medical degree from the College of Medicine University of Lagos, Nigeria, and did postdoctoral research at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, where he led the discovery and pre-clinical development of three malaria vaccine candidates, work he continued at Seattle Biomed.

Dr. Olugbile also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship on acquired resistance to trastuzumab and genetic profile of breast cancer in women of African descent at the University of Chicago before coming to Connecticut for an internal medicine residency through Yale New Haven Hospital. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Alvaro Menendez, MD

Dr. Alvaro Menendez, a hematologist and medical oncologist fluent in Spanish, begins in August. His interests include breast oncology, integrative medicine and improving healthcare equity for disparate populations. He is a graduate of Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado in El Salvador, and completed residency through Brown University. He then completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Indiana University School of Medicine.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Omar Buddhu, a hematologist and medical oncologist, begins in September. He joins Dr. Mark Dailey in caring for patients with hematologic disorders. His clinical interests are leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasms. Dr. Buddhu earned his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, an affiliate of Dana-Farber Cancer Center.

 

Dr. Buddhu will see patients at Hartford Hospital. Drs. Dost, Menendez and Olugbile will see patients at Hartford Hospital and Windham Hospital. To make a referral to any of the new providers, call 860.972.4183.
