For the seventh straight year, Backus Hospital has been recognized as one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the nation with a Most Wired award by Hospitals and Health Networks, a health care publication of the American Hospital Association.
Most Wired Award winners are selected based on the Annual Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, administered by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum. The award signifies a hospital’s commitment to technology and improving the efficiency of care delivery.
“This award is truly a testament to the work and expertise of our staff as we invest in, implement and maintain technology that improves access to care, the quality of care and the cost of care for our patients. We have worked especially hard to build a strong foundation for a smooth transition to the Epic electronic health records platform,” says Angie Mathieu, IT Director and Hartford HealthCare East Region Chief Information Officer.
On Oct. 1, Backus will go-live with the Epic electronic health records platform, a secure, digital environment for patient’s health information made accessible to physicians throughout the Hartford HealthCare system and beyond to better coordinate care. Epic also provides patients with the ability to privately view their own medical record, track appointments, test results, and medications.

HealthCare’s Most Wired® survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, 2017, is published annually by Hospitals & Health Networks. The 2017 Most Wired survey and benchmarking study is a leading industry barometer measuring information technology use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. The survey of 698 participants, represented an estimated 2,158 hospitals — more than 39 percent of all hospitals in the United States.
