Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) held a ground breaking Saturday, June 8 for its new, state-of-the-art facility at its future site at the corner of Route 8 and 44 in Winsted. The new building is scheduled to open in spring of 2020.
All of the services now currently offered by CHH at the Winsted Health Center at 115 Spencer Street will be relocated to the new building in addition to new offerings. When complete the new facility will feature a 12-hour-per-day Emergency Department with full laboratory support, diagnostic imaging, mammography, behavioral health, blood draw, primary and specialty care, and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services, and a sleep center. The property will also have a LIFE STAR helicopter landing pad.
Winsted is the second-largest community in Charlotte Hungerford’s service area. The hospital has had a longstanding commitment to providing medical services to the greater Winsted area in leased space at the Winsted Health Center at 115 Spencer Street, Winsted.

The proximity of the new medical services building to the new Northwestern Connecticut Community College Health Science Center also presents collaborative opportunities between CHH and healthcare profession programs at the college.
When complete, the facility would be the latest addition to Hartford HealthCare’s growing number of outpatient locations across the state. Other new health centers are under construction in Cheshire, Pawcatuck and Mystic.
