Godfrey Pearlson, MA, MBBS, director of Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center at Hartford HealthCare’s Institute of Living (IOL), was recently recognized with the Research Mentorship Award in a ceremony hosted by the American Psychiatric Association Fellowship Program (APAF) and American Association of Chairs of Departments of Psychiatry (AACDP).

Dr. Pearlson – who is a professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at Yale University and founded the Division of Psychiatric Neuroimaging at Johns Hopkins University before coming to the IOL as the founding director of the Olin Center – was presented the award by Philip Wang, MD, DrPH, and Mark Rapaport, MD, past president of the AACDP.

“This is quite an honor and reflective of Godfrey’s career-long commitment to cultivating and mentoring researchers,” said Dr. John Santopietro, physician-in-chief of the Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network which includes the IOL. “Dr. Wang referenced Godfrey’s skill as a gardener as a metaphor for the way he has nurtured so many mentees over the years.

“As a result of his skills, Olin has developed into a world-class hub of research into behavioral health and addiction illnesses populated by talented, motivated and compassionate researchers.”

Dr. Pearlson has earned many awards for his work, including being named a National Institute of Mental Health MERIT awardee. In 2015, he earned the Stanley Dean Award for Schizophrenia Research from the American College of Psychiatrists. The same year, he was inducted into the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars. He has published more than 600 peer-reviewed research articles.
